Macabre

at Southern Utah University

An original work by Spencer Watson

the first act of Macabre debuted at Southern Utah University through the Black Box Grant program. Watson, a classmate and dear friend of mine, contacted me and two other colleagues, Whitney Black and Jessica Sannar, to begin working on his first full-length play. The process began with Watson, Black, and myself doing extensive table work as we developed the characters within his compelling and intellectually-provoking story. The process of putting the show together was highly collaborative and deeply significant for everyone involved. Macabre has since become one of my favorite projects and proudest accomplishments.

“Macabre is a piece of art by and for artists. I left the theater with a lot more questions than I came in with: questions about aesthetic, psychology, purpose, and danger in art. I left the theater excited to see more of Watson’s work,”
